The Canadian Limousin Association (CLA) and Canadian Junior Limousin Association (CJLA) are very excited to announce the details of the new Australian/Canadian Limousin Youth Exchange! In an effort to both attract new junior members to the Limousin breed and support and encourage our current junior membership the CLA has worked out an agreement with an Australian school and Limousin breeders to assist young Limousin enthusiasts in travelling to each other’s country to gain new experiences, knowledge and connections.
Each year, Australia will send young Limousin enthusiasts to Canada for the month of November to stay with host families and take in the major shows occurring during that month. In turn, Canada will send two CJLA members age 16-21 to Australia for their choice of either April (during the Sydney Royal Show, Sydney, New South Wales) or half of July and half of August (during the Ekka Royal Queensland Show, Brisbane, Queensland). A host family or multiple host families will be arranged for the juniors to stay with during their time in Australia. The successful applicants will be awarded $1,000 CAD each from the CJLA to assist with travel expenses.
The application deadline is February 1, 2016 and the successful applicants will be chosen and notified by February 10, 2016. Full details and the application form can be found online at http://limousin.com/assets/Juniors/Canadian-to-Australia-Limousin-Youth-Exchange-Application.pdf
In November the first Australian delegates, Lauren Amor and Kate Loudon of Dubbo, NSW were welcomed to Canada to take in the Lloydminster Stockade Roundup, Farmfair International and Canadian Western Agribition. While in Canada the girls stayed with Limousin breeder host families Lingley Limousin, Hillview Farms and Anchor B Limousin and assisted with each operation's show strings. The Canadian Limousin Association, their host families, and everyone else who had the privilege of meeting these two fantastic girls thoroughly enjoyed having them here for the month of November! The girls took in and helped at the Lloydminster Stockade Roundup, Farmfair International and Canadian Western Agribition and got to experience the Heritage Ranch Rodeo, Canadian Finals Rodeo, CWA International Reception, and a hockey game in addition to Canadian food, shopping, and of course the cold weather! We hope that they have made valuable contacts and lifelong friends, broadened their knowledge and experiences and will always have fond memories of their time in Canada with the Limousin breed! We will certainly welcome them back anytime and are looking forward to selecting our own Canadian Junior Limousin Association member to send to Australia in 2016!
The CLA and CJLA are very pleased to have formed this fantastic partnership with our friends in Australia to ensure a bright future of continued growth of the Limousin breed and membership in both countries and offer our junior members this unique and enriching experience.
